    Text Raphael “Ralph” Gomes, 84, of Captain Cook died April 17, 2016, at Tripler Hospital. Born May 30, 1931, in Kona, he was a cook in the Merchant Marines, painter for the U.S. government in Kwajalein, coffee farmer in Milolii, and a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Army. Friends may call at 9 a.m. June 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10:30 a.m. Mass. Inurnment will follow at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests casual attire and no omit flowers. Condolences may be posted at homelanimemorialpark.com. He is survived by sister, Thomasina Fogliani of San Carlos, Calif.; brothers, Joseph Henry (Linda) Gomes of California, Theodore (Gwen) Gomes of Waimea, Bobby (Phoebe) Gomes of Pahala; numerous nieces and nephews.
