    Text James Noel Martin, 87 of Pukalani, passed away on January 10, 2017. He was born when Hawaii was still a Territory, in Pu’unene, Maui, on December 24th, 1929. He attended Pu’unene Elementary, where his Mother taught and graduated from Baldwin High School where his Father taught in 1948. James served in the Air Force and Graduated from Cal Polytechnic State University in 1957 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. James started his teaching career at Lahainaluna High School, teaching Geometry and Machine Shop there for twelve years. He then taught Math and Shop at Makawao Elementary for twelve years, and Math and Shop at Kalama Intermediate School until he retired. At Lahainaluna High School, the machine shop students provided school service while learning the trade of machinist under the advisorship of Mr. Martin. The construction of the school sign and torch was one such project. James enjoyed model trains, flying remote control planes, woodworking, machinery and his Island Home, Maui. He has lived in Pukalani for 48 years.
    Three daughters survive him: Noella (Bob) Martin-Murdoch of Olinda, Jennifer Martin of Mount Shasta, California, and Jayma (Bailey) Kessing of New Market, Maryland. Five grandchildren: Kristofer (Sarah) Orre, Heather & Forrest Murdoch, Zachary & Emile Paige Kessing. Two Great-Granddaughters: Ella & Alana. One sister: Mary Swain of Virginia. He was proceeded in death by his wife of 59 years, Jacqueline (Jackie) Martin in 2011. Services will be held Wednesday, January 18th at Norman’s Mortuary in Wailuku, starting with visitation from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m., Service will be at 7:00 p.m. followed by a reception. Burial will be held at Makawao Veteran’s Cemetery Thursday, January 19th at 11:00 a.m.
