    Text Beth Murray McCain
Sept. 24, 1921 - Feb. 8, 2014. Former Resident Alameda. Beth Murray McCain, age 92, former resident of Alameda and longtime resident of San Lorenzo, passed away on Feb. 8, 2014, at home, surrounded by those that loved her. She was born Sept. 24, 1921 in Wellsville, UT. She grew up on the family farm until age 16, when she moved to Salt Lake City to begin a life journey that took her to New London, CT; Alameda, California; Ketchikan, Alaska; and again to Alameda where she raised her family. In 1985 she retired from the Alameda Hospital after 23 years service. She was a loving and devoted first caregiver to hundreds of Alameda babies and their mothers during that period. Beth never forgot her farm roots and the sweet family closeness that she experienced as a child. She loved her garden, her flowers, and time spent with her family. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren and was so proud of their achievements and personalities. In the five years before her death, her family and caregivers created a loving network that enabled her to stay in her home. We are profoundly grateful for the examples and wisdom that she carried to each of us from those who had loved and taught her. Being with her during this period has been the greatest blessing of our adult lives.
Beth will be missed by her loving sister, Janice Parker, of Hyrum, Utah, who comforted her until the end; her children and their spouses: Dianne Rodrigues (Philip DePietro) of Alameda, Donald Rodrigues (Mona) of Alameda, and Cheryl Fergen of San Lorenzo; Grandchildren: Noah DePietro, John Butler, Neal Rodrigues, Louis Rodrigues and Martin Rodrigues; sisters-in-law: Barbara Murray and Angela Murray; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert McCain; parents Luther Parker Murray and Mary Geneva (Morris) Murray; three brothers: Lee Murray, Keith Murray and Derlin Murray; son-in-law, Michael Fergen, and dear friend, Ethel Rossiter.
Her family is grateful for the loving attention given to Beth by her devoted caregivers: Kate Choy, Vina Vorabuth, Judith Villafrade and especially Alejandra Pena. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing at 9 am followed by the memorial service at 10 am, Tuesday, February 18, at Chapel of the Chimes, Oakland. Entombment will immediately follow at the same place. Memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online by visiting www.oakland.chapelofthechimes.com. In lieu of flowers, plant an extra tomato plant in your garden in memory of the best mom ever.
