- [S29] Passport Application, Madeira, (Extraction from actual documents).
Maria da Silva applied to emigrate to the Sandwich Islands on May 29, 1884 in Funchal, Madeira. The official file appears to be No. 484. She is recorded on the passport application with her parents, Francisco da Silva and Maria Roza, natives of the parish of Arco da Calheta and residents of Pinheiro, and her siblings João, Francisco, Perpetua, and Ludovina. An extraction of Maria's baptism record is included in the application file and attests that on 27 January 1870 in the parish of São Brás of Arco da Calheta was baptized Maria, legitimate daughter of Francisco da Silva das Fontes and Roza de Jesus, natives of this parish and residents of the village of Pinheiro. Grandaughter on her father's side of Antonio da Silva das Fontes and Isabel de Jesus, and on her mother's side of Antonio Fernandes and Anna de Jesus. Godparents were Manoel Gonsalves Barboza and Rita de Jesus. Extracted from the original 17 May 1884 by vicar Ricardo Jose de Franca Doria.
