She was a native of Washington, DC, and daughter of the late Walker Samuel Phelps Sr. and Madeline Peters Phelps. Barbara moved to Bristol Tennessee in 1974 and retired from Bristol Regional Medical Center as a medical transcriptionist. She was a member of Bethel View Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth R. Burchette. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Kimo Danielsen of Bristol Tennessee, one grandson, Ethan Danielsen, 3, and one granddaughter, Macy Danielsen, five months, both of Bristol, Tennessee; two brothers, Walter Samuel "Donnie" Phelps Jr. of Fredricksburg, VA., and Charles Richard "Rick" Phelps of Ashburn, Va.; and sever al nieces and nephews.
