Notes - Elizabeth Morgan emigrated to America in 1874, arriving on the steamship IDAHO from Wales via Liverpool, England. Her widowed mother Ann (born Roberts) Morgan, and unmarried sister, Mary Alice Morgan, accompanied her. The IDAHO arrived in New York on July 6, 1874, after 12 days at sea. The leader of the 806-person LDS Immigration Company was P. Carstensen. The Master of the IDAHO was W. Forsyth.
In Utah, Elizabeth settled at Brigham City and was believed to be living there when her mother allegedly married Jonah Mathias sometime between 1875 and 1883. The marriage is unverified; however, her husband would likely have been Jonah Mathias (1843-1928) who is interred in the Brigham City Cemetery. Mr. Mathias was earlier married to Abigail Burbank (1848-1935) in 1868, so the marriage to Ann would have been polygamous.
A family story relates that Elizabeth was mistreated by Mr. Mathias, and that a kicking incident motivated John Devinold Morgan to accelerate their marriage to remove her from the Mathias home.
Elizabeth Morgan died shortly after the birth to her seventh child, Mary Geneva. She is Interred with her husband, John Devinold Morris, in the Brigham City Cemetery, Brigham City, Utah..
